Get the Look: Trendy Beach Wear! (Part 1)

Get the Look: Trendy Beach Wear!

Last week I talked about 1950’s makeup and hair, but this week I’ll be showing you how to look trendy on the beach.

With summer approaching fast(ish), Summer collections are appearing in shops, and its time for you to get your gear for the warmer months ahead.

Today, I’ll be showing you what bikini style will suit your body shape.

Here are the most basic types of body shape:

Triangle : You have larger hips than your bust; you need a style to emphasise your bust, so I suggest you buy a bikini with padded cups. You may even want some under-wiring, but I suggest that you keep it simple on the bottom half to avoid it looking fussy.

An example: Rosamosario, Lara flowers bikini (£245), available Net-a-porter.com.

Inverted Triangle: You have a larger bust than your hips; you need a style to emphasise your hips. I suggest you go for a high-waisted shorts style on the bottom, and a non fussy style, maybe bandeau or a thick strapped halterneck for the top of your bikini.

An example: Norma Kamali,  Bill high-waisted bikini briefs (£175) and Johnny ruched bandeau bikini top (£175), available Net-a-porter.com.

Rectangle: You need a style to really enhance your waist. I suggest you go for an all –  in – one, but a style that is cut out in a curve at the waist to make you look beautifully curvy.

An example: Undrest, Liberty-print cotton swimsuit (£175), available Net-a-porter.com

Hourglass : You have a curvy figure, and probably will suit any style, but I suggest you go for a classic triangle bikini, or maybe something more daring. Don’t be afraid to be different!

An example: Mara Hoffman, Printed triangle bikini (£155), available at Net-a-porter.com.

Diamond and Rounded: You both have quite a boyish figure, so I think you need a style to suit that. I suggest a wet-suit type material for a swimsuit with capped sleeves would be great for you.

An example: Lisa Marie Fernandez, The Farrah Maillot one-piece (£315), available at Net-a-porter.com.

Check out my blog on Thursday for what colours and patterns to wear this season.
